Timeline Mistakes That Cost Seats

  1. Missing the lock deadline. An unlocked choice-list is not processed. Set a phone reminder for the official cutoff time.
  2. Not reporting after allotment. Even if your top choice is allotted, you must report and pay fees by the deadline. Missed reporting forfeits the seat — it goes back to the spot round.
  3. Treating Round 1 as final. Spot/sliding rounds often allow upgrades. Don’t disengage from REAP after Round 1; check subsequent rounds.
  4. Underestimating document prep time. Category certificates and domicile certificates can take weeks to obtain. Start before registration opens.
